Six bolt wheels on front of M Farmall

What hubs are required to put steel wheels on front of M? I have nine bolt wheels on back and would like same type wheels on front. Any help appreciated. Bernie Steffen

Bernie: Just buy front hubs and wheels from any 460, 560, 504, 656, 706, 806, etc. Most any bearing shop can match up bearings and seals. You might get lucky and find bearings and seals with hubs will work.

I like Dave's idea as well, but you may encounter cost in putting the newer lower bolster on the M. Is it worth the benefit of new bearings and seals, only you can judge that as you view what is available.

Hugh Mackay Recently purchased wheels and hubs from 560. Won't work on my M. Are you saying I can get bearings to fit my spindles and the 560 hubs? I can buy front from tractor I bought the hubs from for 50 dollars. I thought not too bad. Now if it will just fit on my M. May try the bearings. Thanks for info Bernie Steffen

Bernie: You go to a shop the specializes in bearing and seals. Take along your proposed hubs, and the spindle your going to use. I was amazed the first time I tried this on trailer hubs. He told me, didn't matter tractors, trailers, etc., as long as hub size is large enough to give bearing space between axle and hub.

Over the years (1940s to 1970s) two different size spindles were used on large Farmall front ends. As loaders came along, so did large spindles. I've never seen newer that 460-560, or later models with small spindles. Those hubs should be large enough. Now, if you told me the hub came from a 140 or 240, probably it wouldn't slide over M axle without bearings.

There is always an outside chance the bearing shop can't make the fit. I'm saying it's worth checking it out, both supply and cost. New bearings and seals will give you many years service. I do know this can be done between Super A, 100 and 130 with cast wheels and 140 with disc wheels.

I'm not Hugh but thats why I said get the complete bolster and hubs. Bearings could probably be located to put them on your spindles. If the bearings you have are good the bolster price may be as cheap. It will bolt right on at the 4 bolts. Get the bolster size that hubs came from as some if not all 460 used different size bearings than a 560. Complete 460 lower bolster will bolt on though.

Thanks guys for all the info. According to the IH parts online, 460 takes same bearings as M I am going to get the bolster from the 560 I got the hubs from. Thanks again. Bernie
