Additional reservior for hydraulic top link - Super A

I want to add a hydraulic top link to my 3pt setup, I think it will make running the dirt scoop and york rake a little easier. What size reservoir will I need to add so I have enough fluid? Any recommendations on placement? I have the axillary block for the touch control unit. Hydraulics aren"t my strong point.

Thanks.

Steve: I expect your using double action cylinder for the top link. Double action cylinders actually create their own reservoir in that oil capacity is clse to same on both sides of piston.

If you do add a reservoir it must be above fill port of the touch control so oil can flow by graviety from add on reservoir to touch control. All you need is plumbing between add on reservoir and touch control. The cover on your add on reservoir muct be vented to allow oil to flow from one reservoir to the other. A gallon should be plenty.

Thanks! I thought the valve/reservior would hook to the auxiliary block that goes between the hard lines and the touch control unit? From the looks of the block it seems the flow goes from the pump to the valve/reservior then to the touch control. I"ll have to look around to see how it should be plumbed. Like I said, I am slowly learning hydraulics.

I guess to clarify I have the bypass block, not auxiliary block - I think I got it from Saginaw a while ago. From doing some research looks like I can return back into the bypass block from a open spool valve or use a "Power Beyond" valve and run the return line back into the reservior. Is one option better than the other?

Thanks again.

Steve, with a power beyond, you need to do BOTH:

1. Run a line to the reservoir from the OUT port. This is to give the fluid somewhere to go when you're using the valve with the power beyond.
2. Return to the touch control from the POWER BEYOND port. This is so that the oil can still flow through when you're not using the valve, and the touch control will work.

If you don't do both, then the hydraulic system will get damaged because the fluid has no place to go.

The extra reservoir gets connected to the fill port on the left. If you hook it anywhere on the bypass block, all you will do is blow hydraulic fluid everywhere.

Hi Steve...I have a Super A and I added a Hydraulic top link to it. Very handy, would not want to be without it anymore. I used a bypass block, control valve and double acting cylinder. I didn"t add a resevoir because when one side of a double acting cylinder fills the other side empties. So I just topped off the Touch Control resevoir after I initially cycled the new top link cylinder in and out a few times.

Flow is from the res., to the pump, then the touch control. I have seen the block you are talking about, I think it is basically a power-beyond made for that type of hydraulic set-up.
