Farmall M rear end

After draining the rear end of a M farmall, I need to fill it. The fill plug is stubborn and will not come out. Someone told me that I could pull out the shifter and put the 13 gallons through the shifter hole. Will this work or should I keep working to get the fill plug out?

An automotive service center would pump it through the check level hole. You could put together some 1/2" pipe nipples. an elbow, and a funnel and pour it in.

If I was in your situation, I would siphon it in. In fact, I just did that to my 400 as I thought it would to messy to remove the shifter and pour it. And holding up a five gallon pail at an angle for several minutes is tiring.

I bought a rotary style barrel pump for a buck at an auction. I used it again yesterday to put 5 gallons of oil in my 400s rear end through the right side shifter hole. without it I would mostly likely use a funnel with a hose attached and still use the shift hole to pour it into the Rear end. I think I tried the side hole once. SDE
