rust in gas tank

I would have it boiled out and then lined with a tank liner. I would not do it myself. My local radiator shop does it and it is gaurenteed for life. I did it on a old pickup and it worked great. It had alot of rust and it now is clean. Thats one solution if you dont care about the paint that is on the tank now. I dont know how the boiling and lining process effects the paint.

I had a tractor with so much rust in the tank that it would stall-out after about five minutes in the field. I took a ring magnet like the ones found inside of an automatic transmission oil pan and attached it to a wire long enough to reach into the bottom of the tank. I'd drop the magnet into the tank and drive around the field for a few minutes. Remove the magnet and remove the rust. Repeat until no rust remains. Worked like a charm.
