We just got a WD that was on fire, tags gone. Is there any way to find out what year it is, if it is a 6 or a 9, or if it is a super or not? Please help!!!!!!!!

Casting codes will get you close on the year. Should also be a part number on the engine block that will tell you if it is a 6 or a 9, as well as a serial number stamped on the engine probably somewhere above the number 1 cylinder.

Like Rusty says date codes on castings will get within a few months of when the tractor was built.

As for W-6 or W-9, size is a quick clue. A W6 is simply a standard tread version of an M. The engine will be same as an M.

However EVERYTHING about a W-9 except the steering wheel is bigger by about 1/3. Side by side you cannot confuse a W-6 and a W-9!

Non-super or Super? Quick spotting features for non-supers are drum brakes and casting date codes "W" or earlier. Disk brakes and date codes X, Y and Z will be a Super.

Ok the only numbers I could find are, on the head 278292R1, the block I think 2123C, and the trans 8866-DE. Hope this helps...

for the super wd6 and swd6 ta the head is pn 260 869 r4 and the block is 264347 r3. i can check tomorrow at the shop , i have parts books for the w-6 and w-9 there.

wdr-9 is the rice version, will prolly have a foot throttle, and over center clutch. also will have big squared off fenders. here are a couple pics of my w-9, the rice fenders are quite a bit larger and cover over the tops of the tires.
