saw a tractor(Farmall M) with tag says M-CH(or maybe M-HC, can't remember for sure). what is the significance of the CH(or HC)?

It would be CH which means it is a cotton picker tractor for mounting a high drum cotton picker. Main difference is that it came with flanged rear axle housings to mount bull gears. There was no HC serial designation as the high clear Farmall M was designated as a MV and had the serial number prefix FBKV.
