Soviet Rear Tires on an H

Hello,

I recently purchased a non-running H to tear down. As I was going over the tires, I noticed that the rear tires said
"Made in the USSR" and there is Cyrlic letters all over it. Has anyone else ever run into Soviet-Era tires in the US? I am just curious.

Belarus brand tractors from Milwaukee distributer had Russian/Soviet tires when they came in years back. Some tires and tractors, autos and parts went to Canada when Russian wheat harvest was bad to pay for Canadian wheat. Soviet tires not usual but they did come in at times and probably sold cheap to H"s prior owner. Currently Urals motorcycles-copy of earlier BMW- and sidecars sold here with mix of Russian and other accessory parts-tires are Russian most times to start. RN

The Chinese now hold the rights to the old WW2 military BMW R-71. You can find them being sold as new motorcycles on eBay and elsewhere. There have been some changes made over the years such as OHV heads. I think a complete new sidecar rig fetches $4000-$5000 from an importer.

An interesting note is that Harley-Davidson made 1003 copies of the same motorcycle during WW2. Indian had something similar at the time but looked more like a Moto-Guzzi. A nice H-D XA will bring about $30,000 today. Both Jay Leno and I each own one but we could never get that kind of money. Both bikes need alot of work, albeit his bike runs. I have owned my since 1987 and have no excuses for its current condition.
