have 53 super m battery under seat live hyd pump. use just for tractor rides.will run 350to 400 miles a year. motor is good replaced a couple of axle bearings and rebuilt front post. all gears are quiet all stay in grear. but when idle way down in 4th sounds like it is a little loose. is this enough to tear down trans? thanks for any advice in advance. this is a verry good site.

We're not ignoring your question, but what a tough one to answer without being there and hearing what it sounds like.....

Try Lucas oil stabilizer it has made alot of gears quiet down for me and help with the slack. 20% is a good rule of thumb for the older gear boxes. Just my opinion

Gears like a load on them, with no load, on an uneven surface, etc they can sound "loose". The bigger the gear (more teeth) the more likely. If the gears are as quiet as you say, I doubt if there is any problem. But, I cannot tell without driving it.

I like the heaviest gear lube i can find for the tractor rides as those straight cut gears arent the quietest.sounds like you dont realy have a big problem.A post some time ago said he replaced everything in the tranny cost lots of money and it made the same noise when finished so he figured i just wasted a lot of good money.
