smta waterpump

Thanks for the info. Would it be better to overhaul the old pump. It did'nt seem to leak but the impeller looks seized with rust.

If the impeller is still good, I would say yes. You will need a sturdy press, straight, not extreme power. JimN

I just looked at this pump again, it looks like the impeller is seized on the pump housing, right where the pump fins (thing with the seven holes in it) come close to the housing. But the fan spins freely. Is something broke or just needs to be freed up. Look at the dirt in the picture I took of the radiater hose. This smta was from texas (I think) and I don't think they used antifreeze just water. I can't understand how so much dirt got in it though? Do you think when my machine shop rebuilds this engine they can get all the dirt out of the cooling fins around the engine?

Sorry for so many questions
Thanks

The impeller is too unevenly rusted, and would not be usable. A broken shaft is also no good.
But the shaft is driven by a driver and spring system on the front of the fan hub. I would buy a pump from Kevin Meier, He is reputable. JimN
