Farmall SM Hydraulic Control Valve

I have live hydraulics on my Supe M. Is there a rebuild kit for the control valve? I haven't taken it apart, yet, but there's oil weeping from it somewhere. Not much. Otherwise it operates as expected... I pull on the lever and the cylinder extends, I push on the lever and the cylinder retracts. The main symptom is that the control no longer holds the 2-way cylinder in position to keep my Bush Hog at ANY set height. With the cylinder fully extended, for instance, the mower drops from it's own weight in 20 seconds. It's not the cylinder, because if I pull the hoses with the cylinder extended, I can come back in a month and the thing didn't move. So I reckon the problem is in the control valve. Any ideas? Thanks --- EdP

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds as if your control valve is worn out. IIRC there is only one O ring in the double acting valve and it is to seal oil from leaking out. Sounds as if that is worn out also. You would think they would last longer than 55+ years.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll tear it down once and see what it needs. If the o-ring(s) aren't too badly mangled, maybe I can get replacements. Yeah, you're right about stuff not lasting! --- Thanks --- EdP
