986 transmission

Hi everyone. I finally got around to tearing down the 986 to do the ta and clutch. I"m heading to the dealer tommorow morning to order the parts, but i was wondering as long as i was into it if there was something i could do to stop it from kicking out of gear once everytime i shifted into gear and let the clutch out. The lever always pops out and then the second time you put it in gear it always holds. What causes this. The shift cover on top that i removed seems to have some slop where the arm goes in, Is this my problem? I know once it got stuck in gear, and i had to remove the floorpan and pull on linkage until i got something just right, and then it always worked again. If there"s anything you guys can suggest i would really appreciate it. Thanks alot.

I would replace the detent rollers and shift arms and the cover. I have all the parts including the t/a. Don't buy a diode ta they are horrible. Get a good heavy duty.
