While pushing the tractor to get it started I noticed the electric coil was getting real hot. I just replaced the battery and was sure it was hooked up with neg. to starter and positive to ground. The old battery keep discharging. I wonder if the coil caused this. Thanks for your help.

I completely melted a coil installing a new 12 volt battery, when someone had put on a 6 volt coil. It got soo hot it melted and boiled over, Pretty cool, replaced the 6 volt with a 12 volt, and it has ran fine for years. You just never know what a pprevious owner will do. I have converted several antique tractors to 12 volt, but if you look up what was stock, and buy a stock coil they will hand you a 6 volt. Gotta watch
