pop in the trans

Hi all
Just bought a super M and drained the trans fluid. What does it mean when it looks exactly like my favorite chocolate syrup. There is also a low sounding pop that shakes the tractor coming from the trans when I drive it around slowly.

water
flush with disel fuel or kerosene
refill with 90 wt

as to the pop I would pull the top off of the trans and inspect all the gears sounds like a tooth missing

As Ron said it is water making a "Moose" consistency. See if you can tell which gears it does it in before tear down. Then look those over very well. What frequency is it doing it ? If once per rear tire rotation, it may be a loose wheel and nothing more. if it is not a loose wheel, and it happens once per revolution of the wheel it could be a tooth off of the rear bull gear. This can be checked through the hole where the PTO goes in. If it is more frequent, it could be a broken tooth on a bull pinion. (tough to see from the hole, and likely to need the top taken off) Good luck, JimN

It pops several times with each tire revolution. So When I go to tear it all down I will look the gears over. Your right about the water in the trans it ran out the level hole about as long as it ran out the bottom.

thanks guys

It seems my super M is a little loose where the tractor splits between trans housing and the belly hydraulics. I put a jack underneath, and raised it a little. There seems to be about a 1/32 gap (maybe a little more)betwween those two housing parts. The top where two large bolts are is tight. It just seems to be at the sides and larger of course at the bottom. A little oil actually seapped out when I jacked it up?
