Magneto Recharge

I have a mag which is weak. Won't jump an .025 gap but you can put it on the block and see spark.

Weak spark but does spark. Click good over center on drive side.

Is there a way to recharge this at home or do you need a special tool?

I would install a new condenser to see if that helps. Your coil may be getting weak or the magnets may be losing some of their magnetism.

What kind of magneto is it? Usually the H-4 doesn't need charged. Will the magnet strongly attract a screwdriver? I would try points and condensor and if that doesn't work a coil. You said your impulse is snapping aggressively, as that is a must.

I have an old Wico mag off a twin cylinder garden
tractor that has very weak magnets. Some do lose their magnetism. Hal

I was wondering can these magnets be recharged at home or do you have to have a special machine to do so?

You need to touch the magnets with a flat blade screwdriver to see if they attract that screwdriver with some effort. Your coil could be weak. Clean the points with some 320 wet or dry
and make sure the gap is .013". Install a new condenser before spending a lot of money. Then see if the tractor will start. If you need to pull the mag note where the rotor is pointing and write it down then DON"T move the engine while the mag is off. To reinstall put the rotor in the same position as when you removed it and reinstall. Hal
 
The IHC H4 magnetos have permanent magnets and very rarely need to be recharged. I rebuild magnetos and have a magneto magnet recharger that I recharge non-permanent magneto magnets with.
