How in the heck do replace my PTO seal

Ok, I"ve looked at the parts diagram and some pictures and I"m still stumped. I have my new PTO seal, I"m just not sure what to pull off to get at the seal. Can someone step me through it, so I can get it tonight?

I usually take a large awl and start it into the seal then i use a screw driver to pry it out (can be difficult)i also take emry cloth to clean all edges so nothing nicks the new seal.

What model, dual 1000 RPM and 540 RPM? 540 must be dismanteled or an adapter can be purchased and screwed in housing with new seal on some models or as Budd eluded to on 1000.

is the housing threaded around the PTO? Is the seal countersunk in the housing? If threaded then no reason to dismantle; buy adapter. If not countersunk and is flush with the housing, then will come out by prying with awl; lube sealing faces of seal with lubaplate or similar. Place wax paper over pto to protect seal face and pull out wax paper after seal is in place.

Remove the two bolts that hold the seal housing to the PTO unit and remove the it with the seal. Once it is off you can drive the seal out and install the new one.

You can replace the seal without removing the housing from the PTO unit but if you are not careful you can damage the housing or the shaft.
