IH plow beam question....

I looked at 3 bottom rigid beam trailing plow at auction and was wondering if the trip beam bottoms ( I have a fast hitch plow) are interchangable with the rigid beam bottoms.....I thought about finding a trailing plow and using the entire bottoms from mine if I found another rigid beam plow....
Thanks
Dave

Clefus, They`ll bolt right on. IH has had the same 3 bolt pattern on their beams since the late 1920`s.Don`t matter if trip or rigid. Mark

Should be the same bolt pattern. I have an old set of Plow Chief slat bottoms from and old plow on my newer IH 420 spring trip plow and they fit like a glove.

Dave: The bottoms will interchange, however I get the feeling your wanting to install trip beams on what was once a rigid beam plow, that will not work.

Hugh, I`m curious as to why you think the whole beam assemblies wouldn`t interchange. We might be talking 2 different things here, but I`m positive they will interchange-at least on the IH plows I have that have the box beam backbone ( 2 channel irons welded face to face)which would include #211,311, and 312. These plows were offered either way, rigid or trip beam, and by removing the 4 long 5/8" carriage bolts that go down through the box beam, you remove the whole assembly (plate, beam and bottom) and the other type will bolt right up . Like I said earlier, you may be talking something different from what I`m interpreting from your post and I`m sorry if thats the case.I just want to clear up any confusion.

Mark: Your right, I was thinking the trailer plow he was talking about was on the older Little Genius type. If he's talking about a No. 60 rigid beam then his fast hitch trip beams will bolt up. He really doesn't say anything about models, trailer or fast hitch. Oh well, every once in awhile I break my own rule and wade right in, not knowing all the facts. My good wife tells me, when I ASSUME, I end up making an A$$ out of U and ME.

Thanks guys...
I really dont know my plow models....
The fasthitch plows I have are 3 x 14 ..they have the triangular bracket holding the trip beam and the is a springy catch holding it inside.....

the rigid beam trailing plow I was talking about were the type similiar to the rope trip plows but has a hyd lift cylinder and a rod to the tailwheel...and the plow beam was one piece and the bottom was bolted to it....

If I see a similiar buy in the future I would buy it and swap on my good bottoms so I can say bye-bye to my worn out fast hitch...

Does that help at all??

Thanks
Dave

Dave, It`s really a guess without model numbers. All I can say is the bottoms for sure will swap between the plows that have the box backbone(channel irons welded face to face) on them. If you have the older type plows like a #8, then Hugh is correct, no way it`ll work. Good luck, Mark

Thanks
Ill take some pics later of what I was meaning....sometimes hard to explain what I want to do on a computer typing away....

Hugh...I wasnt trying to convert a rigid to a trip....just swap out bottoms...

The plow at the auction had moldboards that went to the land side...no shin to replace plus it had a point plus a seperate share extending from it.....

...the moldboards were shot....points shot....missing a cylinder....plus a $225 reserve to take it....I would have given no more than $100 and swap out the bottoms then had a decent trailing plow....
But if I find a similiar buy and it will swap Ill buy it...

Dave
