53 Super M hydraulics

I looked around on this sight, but haven"t found any real good breakdown on the Hydraulic system, mainly the set up in the oil tank where the second handle is. Whats inside there? Why are there "locks" on the levers to hold them open? I looked in my books, but most just pay lip service and show no breakdown. Anyone got any pics of the inside?

One thing that might really help you is to go to the CaseIH website and once there, go to the parts look-up. There are very good diagrams there.

Red is right there is a complete pump break down.
I guess you are talking about the pins on the rods. When you pull back all the way you have pressure. When you latch it on the pins is should hold pressure. When you move it all the way farward the pressure is released.

I presume your Super M is equipped with two hydraulic control handles - one on the hydraulic tank and the other on a 4-way remote ("Christmas tree") valve?

If so, the handle on the tank is the "Liftall" control. It's intended for one-way (pressure lift/gravity drop) cylinders as on mounted cultivators, etc. The handle back supplies pressure and extends the cylinder; centered it holds pressure and cylinder position; forward it releases pressure so the cylinder drops. (For it to work the other handle must be pulled back and locked.)

The other handle is for a two-way (pressure both directions) remote-mounted cylinder. To operate a 4-way cylinder first the Liftall outlets must be plugged then the Liftall lever pulled back/latched. Pressure will now be supplied to the Christmas tree valve inlet.
