Almost finished with overhaul. Buddies at work (car guys and John Deere guy) freaked out when I showed them pics of rocker arm buttons; they thought they were terribly worn. However when I swung them up to get them in a position to dress them smooth it sure looks to me like they were designed this way so I haven't done anything to them. There is only a very small wear pattern (pic 3 and pic 4) and the saddle shape is on both the intake engine side of the button and the distributor engine side of the button and I don't see how that could be caused by wear because the button is pressed and doesn't rotate. Looks to me like it was designed that way to prevent side load. In pic#1 you can see the #4 valve depressed and there doesn't appear to me to be anything out of whack. However, this is my first IH engine overhaul so I need to defer to the IH experts out there.
