2444 Hydraulics

The hydraulics on my tractor go up fine, good and strong. But the down doesn't work right. It will go down, but not force down. You can grab the hitch and lift it. Any help would be appreciated.

Owen, thanks for the quick reply. Good news is it isn't broke, Bad news is the guy I know that is supposed to know this stuff is an idiot. I wonder what other things he has led me astray on.

The older model farmalls with fast hitch used a double action cyl and could apply down pressure, like 300 and 400 series. A story on that, first 560 my old boss sold, guy didn't want fast hitch so boss proceedes to show guy how he could use hitch to raise rear of tractor to move wheels. Well, 560 had teledepth valve which will not hold a load and first ones used a single action check valve so it only held hitch up and would not hold with down pressure. Put stand under hitch raised tractor and it jumped up and down like a grass hopper. It would raise it but not hold it so kept correcting itself. The irony of the story, guy still kept fast hitch so we didn't have to take it off. Very shorty, the tractors came with a double action check valve on hitch and it would hold tractor up just fine. Your other fellow may have been familiar with the older tractors, or maybe he just didn't know what he was talking about.
