3588 wheel movement

We are using a IH 3588 that has a wheel that likes to move on the axle. It gets tightened, and proceeds to move anyway. any suggestions on how to fix this?

If the wheel contacts axle on top of axle, (180 degrees from wedge) you may not be able to keep it from walking. The drive should come from the flats on axle only. Had to replace some wheels on new tractors but wheel that were originally good can wear and cause this problem also if run loose . I have sent dual hubs, we couldn't keep tight, to machine shops to gain clearance, never tried it with a wheel as they were under warranty. As pointed out, torque on bolt is important and you must retighten until they hold that torque. A little trick you can try is to slide a thin strip of steel on top of axle flat on each side and see if it will hold, would not necessarily recommend that as a permanent repair though.

The first thing you need to be sure of is that the wheel contacts the flats on the axle and does not tighten on the rounded part. If it does not tighten on the flats you will never be able to keep it in place no matter how tight you get the wedge lock.

The other thing to do is to oil the wedge lock assembly, not only the threads but also where it contacts the wheel and the axle. It may sound counter intuitive but using a little oil will get the wheel much tighter with less torque on the wedge lock screw and they will stay in place.

YEp sure can but it is wise to take the load off by jacking up the tractor and one thing that noboday said here is while tighting the wedge lock when ya think ya got it tight have some ongive the end of the axel an good hit with a sledge while putting the last umph to it and you will get it tight
