450 Hydraulic question

I have a 56 Farmall 450. Last weekend I drove it about 5 miles to check the weight to pull. Almost back to the house and it started spitting hydraulic oil out by the tank. The power steering pump whined a little before this happened, so is it likely that the breather is plugged? I went to local Case IH dealer and it showed the parts were retired, so were can I get a breather for it, or how can I clean the old one? Thanks for your help.

How hot did the hydraulic system get while driving? You may have hydraulic problems that cause the system to stay on high pressure. That will cause the oil temperature to become too hot and cause the problems you are having.

This is a goo point about the hydraulics getting hot. My 450 used to have this problem. I would the oil with the engine running and fluid poured out of the fill hole. The piping would get far too hot to touch.

Eventually found the single- double- acting selectors for the valves were set halfway between, creating a constant full pressure load on the pump. After I fixed all this, it was only then I discovered the power steering didn't work...
