Should I paint my Regular?

I bought a 1929 Regular on e-bay. It is remarkably well preserved. I was planning to go through it, clean it up and paint it, but a friend of mine says it would be more unique to leave it as is. I am pretty sure it is not totally original. Looks like it has had the head replaced. The tires hold air, but are in awful shape. So I am just asking you guys. Better to leave it as is, rotten tires and all, or sandblast it, paint it and get new tires?

If the tires were rotten I would at least replace them, could be a safety issue. What are you using the tractor for? I personally appreciate older tractors that look like they're ready for work.

I don't "use" my tractors at all. I like to tinker with them, get them in good shape and then take them on tractor rides, parades, and antique engine shows. I used tractors enough when I was a kid, now that I am retired I just like to play. Thanks for your response.

Just me but I'd get her running in great shape (new tires) and not paint her. To many have been painted over the years. Here's a first year F-20 that will stay in this condition. I love going to shows and seeing the "unrestored" rusty tractors fire up and run like a sewing machine. Just don't see many that stay original, but you'll find them all day long all painted up.

Interesting point you made. Not too many years ago, a factory fresh F series was an oddity. Now a good one in it's work clothes looks a little unusual. I think I have another reason to not bother painting.

I looked at an f-12 in mint condition that had not been painted, it was too much money, but the guy told me about some stuff that is like clear coat to protect it but it doesn"t make it shine. I think something to keep it from getting worse would be nice. I like them when they are in good shape and they keep their work clothes.

DO NOT PAINT IT- Here in the UK a tractor like that is worth twice as much as a painted one and causes a lot more intrest. MJ
