The other day we pulled the hydralic belly pump out to replace the leaky seal. We successfuly removed the old seal & are really to order a new one along w/gasket. On inspection of the underneath the tractor where the hydralic reservoir sets it appears the I should replace the transmission seal & hydraulic pump drive in front of the transmission also since they seem to be leaking also. Can we replace these seals without pulling apart the tractor? If so how hard is it to replace. Any advice is appreciated.

Is it a M or a H? I just did both of mine this winter and this is what I had. The M I had to drop the pump and take out the clutch shaft to get at the top seal. Since I was in there I changed the clutch plate to. My M is a 49. On my H wich is 44 I droped the pump and did not have to pull the clutch shaft. There was enough room to pull the coupler of the top shaft and I pulled the bearings on the top and bottom and replaced those. I would suggest changing out the bearings while you are under there. They are not that expensive. It took a bit to get those bearings out with little pry bars and screw drivers but they came. good luck and have a nice good creeper.

On an H is it absolutely necessary to remove the Lift All pump to change the top bearing and seal on the transmission? If you can get it out without removing the clutch shaft I wouldn't think you would need to take out the hydraulic pump or am I missing something?

Maybe not necessary but gives you more room for getting your arms and hands up in there to pry out the old bearings. That took me a bit and it would have been really tough if I left the pump up in there.

Successfully pulled the hydralic pump off my 1950 M. Looks like all it needs is a new seal & gasket but the transmission upper seal & lower seals in front of the transmission looks like they need replaced also. Somebody recommended replacing the bearings while replacing the seals also. My question is do we need to split the tractor or can we do the work working from underneath? Feel I need to do this while we have the hydralic pump out. Thanks
