lift all pump maintenence after removing from tractor

After I remove the lift all pump from the farmall H what maintenence procedures should I do to make sure it is up to par. The pump works ok now and doesn't seem to leak but after using it awhile and the oil gets warmed up it does seem like it is a bit weak. Is there something I can do to improve its perfomance beings I am going to have it out of the tractor?
Also I know I read on this forum about removing the pump with ready rod to make it easier. Can someone refresh my memory?

Remove the end plates off the pump and check them for wear marks and flatness, have them ground flat if necessary. While you have it apart you might as well replace the seal and the bushings too.

Is it very hard to get apart? I have never opened one up. Is there any parts diagrams or pictures of the internal parts that I should be checking?

It is not too hard to take apart. The hardest part is when you go to put the pump back in the belly reservoir, you have to get the control lever linkage meshed together properly.

Not shown in the view are pump shims. Most pumps will have several shims of varying thickness although they may be so thin you think there is only one. Do not remove shims without measuring pump gear end play. If you go to messing with clearances get an I&T manual so you know what it should be.

If your pump seems to be OK I would leave it alone. I usually go to 15w50 oil in belly pumps as it is not nearly so thin when hot but is still plenty thin when cold. I run a Vermeer round baler (504 Super G) on a Lift All in an M with 15w50 and have not had any problems in eight or ten seasons.
