Super M lifting pressure

Maybe I'am asking to much from the old Super M.
Here is the deal. I would like to use it to pull a John Deere 1209 cutter. The pto and the power no problem. The cutter only has 1 cylinder and it will almost lift it but when the cutter is down it won't. There are 2 half inch pressure connections on the left side of the tractor both pressure up to 805 psi. My thinking at this point is to add another cylinder to the other side of the cutter. Has anybody out there an idea?

Andrew I would say the pump is live if the tractor is running and I pull the lever I have pressure no matter clutch in or out.
The pto runs from the trans and operates with the clutch.

Only reason i ask is that 800psi is on the low side for a live pump (good for a trans driven style
). They normally run 1100-1200psi not sure if thats contributing to your problem as well? Just bouncing out ideas here...

Roy,

Don't know fer nothin' 'bout your JD mower, but I think it either needs adjusting or repair.

Adjust the float on the cutter head and/or check for a broken float spring.

You should be able to easily lift that whole head with one hand.

I think the cylinder will be hard to change unless you modify the mower those are not regular 8inch stroke cylinders. You need more pressure so you will either need to shim the relief valve or use a different tractor. I would guess as was said before if it is the old belly pump you have already got all there is if not then your pressure is low.

I would add another cylinder. As I remember from a 1207 it is a rinky-dink little one way cylinder like you would find on a snow plow. On the 1207 it needed at least 1500 lbs. pressure to lift, and the 1209 has to be heavier. On the other end there should be a telescoping pipe assembly with a locking bolt, I think that it could be replaced with a cylinder.

I have a cylinder but I would have to modify the cylinder hook up. I looked at it again and if I do use the Super M I'll just us cylinder blocks and set the cutter to the correct height and go.
I'll be cutting a flat hay grazer field and I guess I won't need to raise it up and down anyway. Or like you say just use my 986 like always. I just wanted to try the old fart and might anyway. One thing that has to happen to cut anything is rain. I am 80 miles north of Corpus Christi Texas 5 inches of rain in 2 years just won't get it.

Thanks for your input

You are right the 1209 needs a cylinder on the other side there is to much weight there to lift. You know that one cylinder is in a hell of a bind. I will be cutting a flat Hay Grazer field so for now I plan to just use cylinder blocks to set my cutting height and go. I only have 20 acres to cut and once I set the cutting height I guess I don't need to raise and lower it.

Thanks for your comments.
