E4-A magneto

Need some help in internal timing of this mag. I messed up and twisted the impulse coupling end of the armature shaft off and now I"m having trouble (after replacing the drive end) of finding the right information on internal timing. The rotor gear has a dot on one tooth but the drive gear on the armature doesn"t have a mark. I"ve tried to set the distributor rotor on #1 and match the gear to the point of where the points just open. I get a spark but it certainly isn"t as hot as it should be. I"ve got an operators manual for the tractor (10-20) which shows a picture for when #1 should fire but my point set up is different. Any suggestions?

you need to get a copy of the blue ribbon service manual for magnetoes. i have one but i'm not sure where it's at right now.

Yes it does. Both gears are marked. I believe the tooth is beveled off. And the rotor gear is marked in two places for right of left hand rotation. A B C h & M etc will be right hand. the gas start diesels and w9 use left hand.

Thanks guys but I got it fixed. Found out I had it timed right all the time. Cleaned it up etc. and works good now.
