240 Hydraulics

What kind of performance improvement could I get from the hydraulics if I refurbish the whole system? I know that the 3 point will lift around 1000# now. Would this improve? Is that already about all the machine is built for? I have a Westendorf loader that I put on when needed. It is pretty slow now, would it improve significantly? The pump howls when it is cold (below 50 degrees). Should I be worried? I would have to hire the job out as I have no tools or talent for this, Would $500 get me very far? There is no power steering now. Could I add a separate aftermarket system for another $500 or so? I have a mechanic that I use regularly but I would appreciate your input.

Not sure you would gain much over the 1000# you now lift. As for the loader, the 240 does not have a very big pump, so a loader off the factory pump will no doubt be a little slow. Then if you add PS, you will need a priority flow divider and that will tap off the priority side for the PS, leaving you even less for the loader. I have a pump driven off the crankshaft for the loader (along with a separate 2 spool valve) and an "add on" PS that looks sort of like a Char-Lynn, but I don't think that's what it is. Even at that, if I idle the engine down, I don't have as much flow as I would like at times for the steering. My steering instead of being like the factory under the dash, is mounted in the shaft the goes along side the motor with a bracket built to hold the unit there. Pretty clean installation, except the bracket builder could have dressed up the edges of the iron a little better. Oh well, it's pretty much hidden by the loader.
