what size tire chains should be used on a Farmall Super A? i can"t find the tire size on the tires.
is the chain size based on the wheel diameter and tire width?
 
It should be 9-24 tires on the rear unless they've
been replaced. tirechains.com should have them.

dspace: Tire width and diameter is the way to spec out wheel chains. The tire must have a size on it somewhere. That is most likely first thing you'll be asked when you go to order chains.

If you can't find any answers, pull a rope across the tire face down to about 2-1/2 to 3 inches from rim. That should give you cross chain length. Then calculate the diameter at the point 2-1/2 to 3 inches from rim. Then calculate circumference at that point. That should give you aproximate length of side chain. Best to make that side chain 12" over length. You can always cut off excess.
 
The tire size is based on the wheel diameter and tire width and chains are sized to fit the tire. You need to look around for a something on the tire that is XX-24. You have 24-inch rims of some width. Tire size will vary with the width of the rims, but look for "XX" to be 9.5 or larger.
 
Tire size should be there somewhere maybe on the inside of the tire. It could be anything from 8-15 wide as over the yrs who knows what size is on the tractor now. Do like HUGH says with the rope. You can make a mark on the tire drive it ahead till mark makes one turn then measure length
 

Most Super As have had their tires replaced with 9.5x24 or 11.2x24.

But I agree. The size HAS to be on those tires somewhere.
