I've seen all these pictures and adds for mags. or dist. How can you tell which you have? Don't they both have point's? I don't know what the number is on my little c but when i was looking at it the other day and looked in my shop book it was off a couple of #'s off even being in the book and i've never had the cap off of it.

If you have an auto type coil it should be cylinder in shape and have battery voltage being fed to it. Hal

It's pretty easy really. A mag makes it's own juice and the wire hooked to it is to ground to kill it. Unhook the wire and the tractor keeps on running. A distributor needs juice from the battery to run. Unhook the wire and the tractor dies.

A quick way to tell which you've got is to follow the center wire from your distributor cap. If a battery ignition, that wire will run to a cylindrical, external coil mounted somewhere nearby. If a mag, (assuming the usual H4 IH style) the center wire will run just a short distance to a more rectagular cap on the same body that your distributor cap is mounted to.

Both have points and condenser.

I will ad to the good descriptions below: Google "images" of Farmall Mags, then do the same for coils. Case closed. JimN
