806 steering, brakes

No brakes or power steering. I pulled the MCV pump and found no apparent problems. I do not believe pump is getting fluid. Filter has been changed recently. Can the oil supply through the housing be restricted somehow?

A simple fix, mentioned several times here, is to over fill by up to five gallons to fill beyond the possible air leak. JimN

There are a couple things here that could be the problem ,(1) the O/Ring between the speed transmisson is old and hard and not sealing well or the last time someone had that tractor split they forgot to replace the O/Ring ,(2) the MCV pump is getting tired and not doing the job anymore . (3) you could have a sicking valve in the MCv or weak springs . So the cheap easy way is to over fill the system and this will take care of any air entering the MCV system and help on fluid pick up. IF this does not solve the problem then it is time to break open the piggy bank an d get a new pump and a seal and gskt pkg. for the MCV and a new spring kit and go thru the MCV . For this ya need to get at least a I T manual and a set of dial calipers and a pressure gauge and fitting to make the correct pressure setting .

the gasket kit for the MCV pump is only $67 thru my CIH dealer, NON TA tractor but kit is for both (bought one last week) and not that hard to install. The power steering pump which installs inside the MCV may need to be serviced. This requires a hyd. shop to rebuild as parts on not available thru CIH. Remove the filter and try blowing air thru the inlet port by the MCV pump back to the filter. Worked for me when I had no oil flow. You can also try removing the filter completely and running the tractor to see if you have a faulty filter.

Don't know if this is the problem, but whenever i change the trans filter on my 1466 i have to bleed the pump behind the cab step. On the 14 its just a small bolt facing downward, i take it out, start the tractor until it sprays out and put the bolt back in. Don't know if the 806 is set up the same way though. I had it lose prime once when it was real cold out too, I replaced the pump a few years back inside that side cover, but it will still lose prime when i change the filter. I have heard of over filling it solving the problem, but if you go to change the filter i think you need to drain the transmission down to regular level or the oil will run out the filter hole, just my experience with it.

On the side of your MCV there is a plug facing the rear axle with I think a 5/8ths head . pull this plug and get a pump type oil can full of hytran and pump it full , it will prime the pump . Seams like ya have to stick it back in there in a upward direction . My can has a curve on the end that works good . Worth a try .
