hello.and thanks for any help........with a fully charged battery...it clicks .sometimes up two twenty times before the starter catches.....once it does catch, it cranks just fine....is it the soleniod or the starter that has a problem? thanks ken

Keno, it sure sounds like it, however check all terminals and polish them 'till they shine, then try starting..if you get the same result I would bet it is the solenoid. I had to replace the solenoid on our 584 about six years ago. I thought I had a bad battery, so I replaced the battery and it still wouldn't spin the engine over, thought I had gotten a bad battery so I took it back to the I-H dealer in town, he checked the battery and said it was fine...then he said"Your solenoid is done"..wasn't real costly for a new one and can be changed in a few minutes...check and clean all terminals first though, that's a good starting point(excuse the pun)

IF ya get the CLICK then i doubt that it is the safety switch and lean more to the solenoid as the contacts inside of it are burnt and this is why it just clicks . At the moment here having a memory laps as i can not see in my head what solenoid that is used on a 584 , if it is a Delco you can remove it off the starter with out removing the starter from the tractor and by removing the backalite cap you can turn the contacts 180 degrees and clean up the disc and you can get a bit more life out of it.
