140 Fuel Tank

Tractor Nut

New User
Need advice to remove big dents from top of 140 fuel tank. I may be able to inert tank, cut horizontally below seam, then Tig back together. If anyone has a better idea I'd like to hear it. Or better yet, if anyone has a good tank I'd like to buyy it.

I think you should just get another fuel tank. I have a tank from a super C it might fit but im not sure. They all look the same but i have never tried. They must have some tanks in the wrecking yards. I can check mine to se if it would fit.

If you do cut the tank you will have to seal the inside which is a job. You could inert the tank and weld hooks into the dent for pulling. Once you have the dent pulled as far as possible, cut and grind off the hooks and bondo the remaining dent. No inside sealing would be required.

If you can borrow a stud gun welder, some studs, and a slide hammer, you should be able to pull the dents without cutting the tank in two.

Of course I do not condone bringing any sort of spark or flame near an empty gas tank without first taking the proper precautions to neutralize the fumes inside the tank.

Erik, I like your proposal best, I do not know if the tank from a "C" will fit. Can some of you experienced folks clear that up? I've tried quite a few sites that sell old parts but haven't had any luck. Thanks for everyones advice.
