986 and 1086 shifting

can you shift the transmission 1-2-3-4 using clutch while moving or do you have to chose one before taking off?

1-2-3-4 are not synchronized, but you can shift them on the go. With a moderate load you can start out in 2 high with the TA back, go to TA ahead and accelerate, then shift to 3rd and so on.

It's kinda like driving an over the road truck without a synchronized tranny. You can make it slide right into gear without clashing once you've practiced enough.

Double-clutching works real well if you can manage to move the throttle, gear lever, and still manage to steer!

That's the beauty of hydrostatic steering, it doesn't like to take off that-a-ways when you let go of the wheel, at least not immediately. Once you get used to it you can shift it with just the throttle. On the 2-3 go about 2/3 to 3/4 throttle then shift, wind it up just a bit more for 3-4. I'm trying to remember how I shifted the 786, I know with the 756 and the 66's I used my left pointer and middle finger for the throttle. I think I just let go of the wheel with the 786. Didn't take long to shift any of them though.

Yeah, guess I didn't mention that, no need to go full throttle in any of the gears when you're shifting up. Just over 1/2 throttle is usually enough unless you have a really big load or are going uphill.
