Farmall 300 T/A get around

My husband, who is not internet savy, has a Farmall 300 that would not move. So he split it apart to find the engine clutch plate was wore down and looking a little deeper seen the T / A clutch pressure plate was broke in half and the fingers (or what every they are called) where wore down to nubs. He replaced both items, drained the old oil and replaced it with new. Once back together it was working pretty good, actually better then before, then he lost motion again suddenly so had to pull it back up the driveway. Anyhow, he took some plates off to check the rear of the T / A and he told me the gears or whatever they are would work then not work. I seen a T / A eliminator kit online yet the price for it is just shy of just getting the new T / A assembly. So is my question is there away to eliminate T / A safety with out spending a fortune (money is tight right now) to do it on a Farmall 300 RC?

The answer is that the ramp and roller (one way clutch) at the back of the TA (transmission end) is probably not working. It is about as easy to repair it and make it operate correctly as it is to use an eliminator Kit. The adjustment of the TA needs to be done carefully. It in fact mightr have seemed to work well but been self destructing (possible). Kevin Mier Who frequents this sight has all the parts and knowledge as well. The ramp and roller system (if at fault) is not dramatically expensive. JimN

I do have the replacement parts for the t/a. I also have the elimination kits but they aren't that much cheaper than a rebuilt t/a and it also brings down the value of the tractor. Feel free to email me on parts.

May want to make sure the problem is with the T/A gears. When the T/A clutch is engaged, lever forward the gears looked at in rear compartment under cover don't turn. The whole unit that carries the gears turns. Was the t/a clutch release bearing replaced along with pressure plate? If the part t/a pressure plate is bolted to is turning when trying to move tractor, then some teeth on the gears or shafts, or a shaft is broken for the t/a unit itself to be the cause of tractor not moving with t/a lever forward. If the part the t/a pressure plate bolts to doesn't turn with t/a lever forward I would check clutch and adjustments again. The t/a side of t/a unit is probably not holding but whole unit failure chances of keeping tractor from moving in dirrect drive range is low. It happens sometimes though.
