B414 Hydraulic lift

I just got a B-414 and have been using a blade to move snow with no problems. All of sudden I could not lift the blade. I have checked everything, (short of taking the hydraulic pump off) and I am stumped. I called the guy I got the tractor from to see if there was some lever I moved inadvertently.....his response was, "that used to happen to me, and I would tell my dad, and he would say 'move this lever'....you probably moved it with your leg..." He couldn't remember where that was on the tractor....he hadn't driven the tractor for a while.

Anyhow.....is there some lever that disengages the hydraulics that I need to be aware of?

Any info would be sooooooo helpful. We are getting hammered with snow here in Idaho and I really need to get scooped out.

Thanks so much.

Hi Lynn, there are two levers that operate the 3pt hitch. The one closest the fender is the draft control and should be fully forward except when using in ground implements like a plow or cultivator. The second lever is the up/down and is closest to seat. There are two valves at the front of the seat. The one at your left hand is push and turn a 1/2 turn and it controls the the GPM flow to 3pt hitch either 3 or 6 GPM. Pushed in or SLOW position is 3 GPM. The other valve at your right hand is a SHUT OFF valve that either lets hydraulic oil flow to 3pt or auxiliar vale and this valve should be in the OPEN position to allow 3pt to work. Check 3pt hydraulic oil lever by opening pipe plug behind the seat on top of rockshaft casting. Should be able to see hydraulic oil on top of a shelf when you look down the hole. Use IH Hytran or equivalent to top up.

There is also an inlet filter but that shouldn't stop 3pt all of a sudden. The other problem that occurs is front lip seal in hydraulic pump leaks hydraulic oil into crankcase. Check crankcase oil lever to see if is over full.

Hope this helps & happy holidays

Jim,
Jim,

Thanks so much for the info....I am aware of everything you mentioned but the right hand SHUT OFF valve..... Where is that switch/lever located?

I have checked the oil level, there doesn't appear to be anything leaking into the crankcase. I have a shop manual for the B414, but I do not find any SHUT OFF valve on the right side. I really appreciate your quick response.

We are definitely going to have a White Christmas here in our part of Idaho.

You have a Merry Christmas!

Hi Lynn,
Right behind the gear shift lever and mounted on the front of the hydraulic reservoir housing should be two control valves with cast aluminiun handles. When sitting on the seat the valve at the right side is 3pt/Aux valve shut off valve.
The hydraulic suction screen is in the hydraulic housing connected to the large pipe(suction) line going to the hydraulic pump.

Perhaps your problem is being caused by ice somewhere. Was tractor in warm garage and then out into the freezing cold?

Jim,
Thanks again for your reply. Would that shut off valve be opposite of the slow/fast valve? I might try to take a picture of my tractor and that might help. I am baffled!!!! I guess it is possible that the pump just quit working, but that doesn't seem likely.

The tractor had not been in a warm garage, so I don't think icing could be it.

I went out this morning to try to locate the shut off valve on the right side and could see nothing.... I will look again.....

Thanks so much for you help.

Have a great Christmas!
Lynn
