If you can't find a serial number tag, then look above or below the number one spark plug for a milled flat, and post the engine serial number. Otherwise you may have to post some pics for ID. It's pretty tough to tell from part numbers, unless someone has too much time on their hands, and are willing to do it to do research for you.

Harvey: You have a Cub LoBoy and the serial number is 21969 the number you found on the steering box. Metal tag on steering box is the location of Cub serial numbers. I suspect Cub and Cub LoBoy share the same sequence of serial numbers. J stands for rockford clutch. All those numbers you see ending in Rxx are part numbers.

The engine will have a serial number, however I'm not familiar where it is on a Cub. You have to remember that Cub engine is quite unrelated to other IH engines. Most other IH engines have the engine serial number directly below number 1 plug on right side and that number is stamped on a machined flat surface. It is stamped, as opposed to cast letters or a tag.

Most other IH engines being overhead valve, places the plugs on the side, however Cub plugs are on top. Look for the machined flat surface anywhere on the block.

Hugh,
The Cub Lo-Boy had it's own serial numbers starting at 501, separate from the Farmall Cub numbers. They did share one set of engine numbers. The engine numbers are stamped into left side of the block, near/behind the carburetor.

i would like to thank everyone for the help! it is very much appreciated, still wish i could find out what year it is, again thanks to all. HB

Harvey: Holy lightening, didn't we cover the age. we're slipping.

On the left of this page under Research & Info, click on serial numbers, then click on International then on Cub LoBoy. That will give you beginning serial number for each year LoBoy was in production. I think it will be around 1966, however I can't get to your original post right now.

I can only speak for myself, but I thought I covered it adequately when he asked the same question on another site.
