super c crankshaft end play

Just reinstallled my machined super c crank with new bearings, plasti-gauge measurements look good. My book indicates crankshaft end-play at 4-6 thousandths. I have no end play at all ? The new thrust bearing is preventing any crank movement. Is this normal ? Spec does not indiacte 0.000 to 0.006.

This will not work. I would go for .002, but zero, and binding is sure to be taken apart with rework needed. Either the crank flange is not machined correctly, or the bearing lips are too thick. There is no realistic method of fixing it on sight.
Are you sure there is no nicks or dings in the main cap orr block that would cause the insert to flare ? (check the width of the main and cap to see if they are narrower than the bearing opening. The difference between the two should be .002 or less. JimN

When I put my Super C together it seemed like the caps were a little bit of a loose fit in the block, i.e. it could be possible to get a cap on 'crooked'.

Once I checked the clearance I oiled the face of the inserts and turned the crank, tightened the bolts, turned the crank, tightened, etc.

No end play sure seems odd.

Loosen all the main bearing caps, pry the crank forward & back to "position" the caps correctly.
Torque the bolts again & re-check the end play.
