I am a relocated city guy , & I just bought a M. It is the first tractor I have had & am not sure what type & weihjt oil I should use during the cold weather. I live in Iowa, so it gets cold. It is only used on occasion for short periods.
Thanks

As Wayne suggests below 10W-30 will work fine.

However if you will use your M in Iowa winter weather 5W-20 - or a synthetic - will permit easier starting. (Personally I'd go with 5W-20...)

Cold weather is slowing the braincells down!! 2+ inches of snow so far & more on the way.
Be sure to replace the oil filter; take an old dental tool or equivalent and dig ALL the old gasket out when replacing it.
I have found 2 old gaskets stacked up on some of the old Farmalls we have collected over the years. This is an invitation for an oil leak.

Hi John,

You'll be doing yourself a huge favor if you pick up a reprinted owner's manual for your "new" tractor. Some of the information is dated and requires interpretation to equate to today's technologies and standards, but the mechanicals are still the same.

User "bsharptwo" on eBay makes a really nice reprint. I can't vouch for him being authorized, but he does quality work. The manual looks and feels almost like a brand new original.

If your worried about the cold thats what the "W" in 10W-30 stands for,it means WINTER NOT WEIGHT,so 5w or oW is the best for cold climates, the viscosity starts off as 0/5/10/20 whatever thens changes to 30/40/ so on and so on.Thats why when you buy 30 it doesn"t say "W" because it"s allways the same.
