340 International power steering - HELP

Can somebody help me out with a part or have any ideas? 340 power steering has a cylinder with a piston that works much like an engine piston would but with fluid. Guess what? I broke the steel ring on the piston. Of coarse they dont make the ring anymore and the salvage yards I called so far can't help. Well you know how I'm feeling right now. Anybody that knows 330-340's and can help me out with a ring or even ring size,or maybe the piston with the ring or any ideas on what to do besides selling the tractor. Can I use the same steering unit as manual steering ? THANKS

Well unless Im mistaken you are refering to part number 60 in the dagram which is the piston rings (theres 2 of them) part number 366158R1, is this correct? If so according to the website the part is still availible, so I would say try Napa or someplace similar before you get tempted to sell it.

Jordon, yes your right it is #60, # 58 is a rubber o-ring. But no it has be retried. I have been to Napa and come real close to the size or # I need. Now I'm going to another parts house and see if they come up with same ring #. If so I will order them . Since they come in set four I won't be afraid to brake one. $110. a set plus shipping. I just hope real close is good enough. I'm going to wait until Monday to order , Maybe somebody out their will have something for me before then. I will let you know how it turns out in a week or so. Measure the ring land in the old piston, the piston OD and the bore and contact Hastings or some other piston ring manufacturer. I bet you can find an automotive piston ring that will work. Then let us know. I have a 340 with PS and would like the information.

Call some salvage yards, also. You might find what you need. Good luck.

masey fergeson tractors ues metal rings on ther 3pt lift cly. there is several different sizes. or ues one large o ring in place of the metal and small o-ring.

Tis surplus parts dealer, for literally most any IH tractor, Id say try them before you order too. Usually theyve had what I was looking for.

OK guys this is what I did. Went to a hydraulic cylinder rebuilding & manufacturing place called Diamond Hydraulics,Inc. They could have a ring made $90.00 or take the piston #59 and widen the gap that the ring fits in and use a ring that they have for about $25.00. You know what I did . Talk about a happy person....THATS ME... Left the piston and cylinder, I'll get it back next week. Thank you guys for your help and time. What a great web sight. Let you know how things go when I get the 340 back together.
