Well after around 15 months I finally have my Model-H with the Saginaw two cylinder 3-point hitch attached. After reading about 3-point attached backhoes, I am considering these two modifications.
Note: The Saginaw 3-point is designed to reattach the original drawbar onto the rear of the Saginaw superstructure.
1.) Figure out a way to securely bolt the two 3-point arms firmly to the drawbar. Hopefully this would keep the arms from moving left/right or lifting when using a 3-point attached backhoe.
2.) Attach a steel reenforcement member between the back of the Saginaw 3-point and the frame on the front of the tractor on both sides. This would be attached on both sides between where the drawbar attaches to the Saginaw and the lower frame member on the front of the Model-H.
Has anyone else on the forum performed similar (or other) modifications to reduce the chances of a 3-point backhoe damaging the tractor?
Since the Saginaw is built like a tank, I hope these two modifications would virtually eliminate the chances of damage to the tractor. IE. the category 1 backhoe would break before the tractor.
I have also read on the forums that the top link of some after market 3-point systems can be the weak link (when using a 3-point attached backhoe) causing the axle housing to break. The top link attach point on the Saginaw is built very substantial. (All Comments and pictures welcome?)
Also, forgot to mention the swinging drawbar has already been modified and is firmly bolted into place. This should also help reduce twisting forces on the axle housing.
