400 Power Steering

My 400 has a wide front and power steering.( Char-lyn) When wheel is turned in either direction it want to steer hard or almost stop. If I raise tractor with loader it steers fine. I"m thing one of 3 possible problems. Steering worm, pump or steering motor. Anyone else had problems like this, if so what did you find. Or any advice on checking this out.

Try steering it setting still by hitting a hydraulic lever at the same time. If you can spin the steering wheel then, you have a flow valve problem in the hydraulic system

First make sure belt is tight, oil ok,otherwise sounds like low pump press. Should have 750lbs press. Just my 2$. GOOD LUCK

First run a pressure test on the system . Also try dead heading one of the hyd. remote valves and see if ya have steering . Now if your tractor has a belt drive pump and not feeding the steering system off the tractor hyd.'s then either the belt is slipping or the pump is not pumping. Here again pressure test .

No oil pressure.

If it's a CharLynn, it's aftermarket and 'more than likely' has it's own dedicated pump.

Like Vet says, either the belt is slipping or ya just flat need a new power steering pump.

Roughly $100 at any auto parts store.
