Old friend ask Me to help Him get His A runin'....He'ed gotten in in bad shape, Had to move off the Homeplace, A sat outside for Five years, engine was rained full and stuck...I drained the engine, pull the plugs, poured ATF in the cylinders, every 3 or 4 days I'd bump the starter, two weeks past, still stuck, sprayed a can of Kroil in spark plug holes, three days later starter broke it loose....I changed the oil filter, put in 4 guarts of 30w ND oil.....next problem...no fire to plugs...This A has a Magneto, last Magneto I worked on was on My Lincoln 200 Weldin' machine 20 years ago, I know it needs a new cap, I didn't find a rotor when I pulled the cap, I see a small gear looks like the rotor might go on. Crankin' the engine over, I don't see any fire at the points... Can Yaw'all please take Me to school on this one, what all do I need to replace, what do I check for and How? Thanks in advance for the help
( the mag. don't click when it is crankin' )

Sounds like the rotor is missing. Replace the cap. You can buy a magneto tune up kit that would have new points, condenser and rotor. If that won't fix it, replace the coil and make sure the magnet is strong. If the mag does not impulse, you need to fix that too.

If you see a smnall gear when you remove the cap there is more missing than the rotor as there is a plate that covers the gear with another gear to time the rotor with the cap when the mag impulses. Your mag may need more than to make it fire. It wont show any fire mow till all the parts are in place. I have the parts it sounds like you need. You mite want to give me a call. Where are you located? New points and stuff aint going to fix it till you get the gear and cover. I am located in IOWA just so of IA CITY 319-430-3907
