part in electrolysis tank

Is there any reason why I can not put the steering column collar (in the instrument Panel)in the electrolysis tank? I assume I can, but have not put a part with grease zerk in tank.

If your main concern is about the zerk, I can't think of a reason why you couldn't. If you think about it for a sec, the hole for the zerk is the least likely place for there to be any metal corroded enough for the electrolysis to remove it. That's as long as you don't leave it in the tank for two weeks! ;8^)

Zerks come in two types -- they either press in or thread in -- and I don't know which type yours is. If it threads out, do that and have a look. If it's caked up in grease underneath, I'd clean the grease out before electolysis and put the zerk (or a new one) back after the process. On the flip side, if it's a press-in and it should happen to be dry and corroded underneath, I'd consider packing the hole with grease and leaving the zerk in for the process. The press-ins are a tension fit, so you don't want to clean away so much metal that you can't get the tension to hold the zerk in afterwards.

Either way, if the electrolysis messes up the zerk, you can just replace it afterwards.

That's my $.02.
