my M has a magneto. would a distributor work on it.would there be any benefit to switching it.thank you

many benefits. if a magneto was better don't you think that they would all have them? you will get more power less expensive and many fewer parts to worry about. the only reason to keep a magneto is for a show tractor's originality.

One advantage with a mag you don't need a fully charged battery since the engine can be hand cranked. With a distributor you need a good battery since cranking the engine will use a lot of that battery power for cranking and may not leave enough battery for the ignition. Hal

Yes, you can switch from a magneto to a distributor ignition. I myself like magnetos better, but a distributor will work fine too.

Just stick a coil on it and use the mag as the distributor, cheap fix

Id keep the mag.Mag will make much hotter spark.When they are right they are trouble free for years.Keep it! Hoss

the h4 magneto parts are not very hard to get and they are easy to work on and fix if they have problems. Plus if your battery is ever dead you can drag it to start it without having to charge it up.
