I found a 1954 Super C for sale. They want 1500 for it. It has an older restoration and a three point hitch conversion. It has nice sheet metal, working lights. Everything works other than it wont stay running and dies going up hills. It also has an unrepaired crack in the block. It has JB weld on it but I don"t call that repaired. It has a distributor and also comes with a sickle bar mower. Is it a good deal or at leat worth it? It is very original.

depending on how good the tin is I wouldnt pay more than $800...but thats me...some people will say the 3 point is worth more but I think its worth less IMO...Im sure you could get it running good in no time...maybe some pictures will help us out
 
Zach: On that hitch, you don't say whether it is a fast hitch conversion with fast hitch still intact. If it is, the fast hitch with 3 point conversion and both are complete, the hitches alone are worth somewhere between $500. and $750.

Sounds like Jake is a parting out guy.
 
That price might make both of you happy. A bit less (like 1200) would make you happy, and the seller OK.. JimN
 
If you have a use for the tractor and mower, $1500 might not be a bad price. I would not be too concerned about the crack if it is not leaking. The not running up hills is probably not a serious problem. Most Super Cs are able to climb hills...

Otherwise, buy the best tractor that you can afford.

It sounds like an alright price to me. Farmalls are easy to work on, so it should not take long to get it running like it should. Let us know if you buy it or not.

the last thing i want to do to any tractor is part it out. i just like to keep things original. i dont use my antiques for everyday farm work, i got other tractors for that, so to me an original tractor is worth more, just why another reason my price is a lot lower than what other people would pay, to me its just a toy to play with, not something to make money with...

but then again thats just my 2 cents :roll:
 
Jake: I meant no offence, just wanted to impress upon Zach, there is a difference between a tractor in excellent condition, and one that just runs and in average condition. Lot of dollars between the two.

He hasn't answered my question, so I presume it doesn't matter.

I look at these old tractors from a point of view, being what it will cost to put them in excellent working condition. If that isn't feasable, I part them PDQ.

No offense taken here, I understand what you were trying to relay to him. Another big factor of course is where your located, and how plentyful they are...
 

$800 is "tractor jockey flim-flamming an old lady out of her late husband's equipment" or "complete and free but not running" or "complete and running, but requires major work to make it usable" price. $1500 is more in line with what the market is right now for a Super C in average condition, complete, running and usable as-is.

That cracked block would devalue it some depending on where it is, how big it is, if it's repairable, and/or if it's leaking.
The 3pt may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it does add value to the tractor.

Overall, if the crack is not in a structural area and can be JB welded over, it'd be a wash in my book. So, $1500 would be a fair price.

I"m thinking I"m going to. I have to run a compression test and hear it run. But i have 1 super C a;ready and a B I just got running.
