A Cub starter flywheel problem

My starter does not mesh with the teeth on the flywheel. When it DID touch the teeth, it was by a bare 1/32in The ends are wore where they barely touched. Is there a way to reset the starter gear so it comes out further, or put shims behind the flywheel so as to bring it closer tio the starter

Either you have the wrong starter, or the Bendix drive on the starter is shot.

There's no adjustment for the flywheel or the ring gear. The ring gear is as wide as the flywheel is thick. The flywheel can't move or it throws the entire driveline off. The driveline can't be moved period.

Make sure you have the correct starter. Make sure the flywheel ring gear teeth are in good condition, also make sure the starter drive has good teeth.
