While back I asked you all what might be wrong with my 706 gas - it had been fouling plugs then went to 0 compression on #2. Well, after a few weeks of interruptions we finally got it opened up. Found a blown head gasket between 2 and 3, and a weak spot between 3 and the coolant hole. Head was warped, had it milled and all new guides and valves ground as needed (only intake on #2 was really bad, saved the rest). Trued up the manifold as well. Bores looked great as did the tops of the M&W pistons. So, back together and back to the field this weekend, ran like a watch. In case you're wondering, complete head work and the gasket set was $354 and they had it ready in 2 days. Add about $60 in new antifreeze, oil, copper-coat, etc. About 3 hours to open it up (I didn't take the fuel tank off which in hindsight would have been easier) and about 4 hours to put it back together including an hour run time and retorqing the head bolts and setting the valves when warm.
