countershaft nut removal

We have been trying to remove the nut on countershaft that drives the lift-all pump. we tried a piece of flat stock and sledge hamer. It would not budge. Then we took pump out and welded a socket to a piece of flat stock and used a impact wrench still nothing except the slot is getting wider.Do you guys have any ideas.
Thanks Bill

It turns lefty loosie. I hope that is the direction you are going. Heating it will burn the seal, really heating it will ruin bearings and other expensive parts. Welding a old 3/4 drive socket (if such exists) to it with nickel rod, noght heat, and apply impact! JimN

I used a pipe wrench and sledge hammer. Put tractor in 5th gear. Right hand thread. Be sure to turn to left. Jim

Lock the brakes or have someone hold them on & shift to reverse. I have just used a large pipe wrench & the nut came loose. Turn lefty-loosey.

The nut is righthand threads which means it unscrews counterclockwise. Put the PTO in gear and then put something on the PTO shaft to hold it from turning. I use an old PTO yoke with a bar though it. Then use your impact wrench and the coupling on the front of ths shaft should come loose fairly easily.
