Price on a 1937 F-12

A man stopped by and asked if I would be interested in his father-in-laws F-12. It ran at some point in time and the back rims and tires are shot. He has not cranked it in several years. It has been in a barn for a long long time. Scrap in metro St.Louis Mo. is $135.00 a ton. Tractor data said it is 2700 lbs. That's about $200 What do you think? Thanks Bill

If it's otherwise all there, I'd say that's a pretty good buy. However, tires add up quick enough, not to mention rims. Then depending upon what else turns up in it, and what results your plan for it, you can spend thousands easy enough rather just hundreds. To just get it running and on good rubber [assuming it didn't wind up with a cracked block or something nasty], it's still easy enough for your total to top $1000. Then again finding out how lucky you get might be half the fun!

I got 2 of them for $200.00 each. Rear rims are shot & 2 of the 4 fronts are shot, only one mag, one fuel pump, one steering wheel, one seat, one drawbar. I will try to make one out of the two.

To make $ scrapping it considering the work of hooking up trailer and loading it and the gas to haul it in, don't sound like it is worth it for scrap. However if you need something small to tug stuff around with they are dandy for that! A set of steel wheels that don't go flat and need replacing would be worth it if you aren't going to use it on the road. Mine will run all day hard use on about 3-4 gallons and will skid good size logs. It also has a cracked block but most of them do so don't let that scare you. If it has been sitting for years, it may just need the tank cleaned out the oil pan cleaned out and the mag points cleaned up to run. If it turns out to be junk, then sell it for parts or part it out.

I would buy it in a heartbeat. If you get it and decide you don't want to put the money in it to fix it up, you could part it out and easily get your money back. Besides, even if it does cost some to get it going again, you won't have to pile the repair costs on top of an already high price just to get the tractor.

Just my opinion.
