Do fast hitch to 3-point hitch conversion kits work well?

I have seen the "conversion tongs" that snap into a fast hitch so that it can use 3 point equipment. I can't figure out how they work-- the arms of a three point hitch have a lot of play and can be spread to go on to the pins of an implement. The fast hitch arms are rigid... Does anyone know if these conversion kits work well?

Thanks,

Mike

I have wondered that myself. I use the adapter that slides into my prongs and then I hook up the 3 point implement.

You need a center link attachment. They do not lift emplement as high as a normal 3 point hitch so some clearence problems may arise but if you are patient you can get by with these adapters. Used on on a 1967 706 for years, pulled mounted chisel,6 row crop cultivator and glencoe mounted field cultivator. The longer the emplement the more the lift height becomes a problem.

Horseshoe shaped adapter used by brother on 560, 350D works on somethings- he usually puts adapter on 3pt equipment like bush hog and sprayer, then backs into prongs easily. Top of inverted U has a top link connector. 2pt fast hitch is fast mount/dismount without the alignment and bolting of 3pt mounting. Sisters Case with Modified end "Eagle" hitch is also quicker mounting than regular 3pt. 3pt equipment is more widely available cheap at times- having adapter handy for many pieces of equipment, but not all , especially large pieces like 8 row planter on tool bar. The three pt.to fast hitch adapters worked well for me on my 706 ger. A bracket for the top link was already mounted. I had both cat.1 and cat.2 adapters.

You install the tongs on the equipment, then back into the equipment.

On tongs that are just a ball swivel like a 3pt arm, that can be a pain because someone has to hold up the tongs while you back into them.

I have seen different types of conversion tongs, some that have balls on the ends and some that have a groove cut out so you dont have to worry about spreading out the arms. Seems like this setup would be easiest.

This factory fast hitch 3ph came with my tractor. The width is fixed but I can use my bush hog, dirt scoop and box blade ok. You can see these options on the CaseIH online catalog. David.........

Mike: For a good answer you should have listed the tractor model. First you had the manual draft hitches, then automatic draft controlled hitch and fast hitches that came on 06, 56 and 66 tractors were different again.

There were more than a dozen different kits, some of them quite good, while others were little more than scrap steel.

I've yet to see one of these kits than will do excellent moldboard plowing.

Then you must add the people factor, some will do good work with any of these kits and/or tractors, while others will make them all look bad.
